Identification on accompanying label (typewritten): Walter Pach (1883-1958). Pach's position in the history of American art rests strongly on his writings. He took up vigorously the defense of the new painters in Europe, Cezanne, Renoir, and Matisse. He traveled with Walt Kuhn looking for pictures for the Armory Show of 1913.
