Marsh primarily records his daily outdoor activities in Nutley, New Jersey (such as skating, sledding, and coasting in the winter, and playing tennis and swimming in the summer) with friends including Lloyd Goodrich, the day's weather, his studies and events at school, and illnesses. Many entries are illustrated with pen and ink sketches.
