Summary:
Biographical material, general and business correspondence, subject files, writings, catalogues, brochures, monographs, artwork, donor lists, printed matter, photographs, negatives, slides, transparencies, audio cassettes, a video cassette, and motion picture films relating to the painter and educator Bernard Pfreim. The majority of the papers concern Pfriem's tenure as founder and director of the Lacoste School of the Arts in Lacoste (Provence), France, 1962-1991 Correspondence, 1951-1995, includes general and personal business letters. Subject files, 1939-1990, primarily concern Lacoste School of Arts' housing donations, benefits, solicitations, grant-scholarships, foreign and domestic studies programs, program and course enrollment, publicity, speeches and lectures, student courses, and student evaluations, insurance, teacher applications, travel and transportation, various expenses, visiting lectureres, and writings about art techniques and assignments. Also found are files on Sarah Lawrence College, 1970-1975, Joan Baren and the South Bronx kids, and on individuals, Charles DeCarlo, 1971-1973, Maurice Dijian, 1970-1971, Katherine Hahn Falk, 1985-1986, and many others. Writings by Pfriem include speeches, statements, essays, and lectures. Original artwork includes Pfreim's drawings and works of art by students. Also included are numerous photographs of Pfriem, Lacoste, of Ehtiopia, nude females, hands, of Betsy Richardson and various artists, and works of art by Pfreim and student artwork. Printed material includes articles about Lacoste School of the Arts, exhibition catalogs and announcements, advertisements, information on Marcel Duchamp, posters, brochures, cards, and other gallery mailings. Also found are audio cassette tapes of school events and films, and of "Bernard Pfriem, His Work", a video cassette, and a motion picture film The Stones of Lacoste, undated also included.
