Summary:
Biographical material, letters, art work, printed material, and photographs primarily document the career of painter Eric Hudson. A majority of the letters were written to Julie Hudson, and there is a curriculum vitae and photographs of art works by painter and lithographer Jacqueline Hudson.
Biographical material, undated and 1927, consists of a curriculum vitae, a biographical sketch, and a National Academy of Design associate membership certificate for Eric Hudson, and a curriculum vitae for Jacqueline Hudson. Letters, 1926-1988, are primarily addressed to Julie Hudson from her friends Michel and Genevieve Toullec (nee Le Doare). One letter is from Philip Evergood regarding a painting trip to France. There are also Christmas cards designed and/or illustrated by artist friends including Jean Bellows, daughter of George Bellows, Harrison Cady, Truman Fassett, Aldro Hibbard, Robert Nisbet, Howard E. Smith, and Frederic Dorr Steele.
Art work, ca. 1911-1934, consists of 9 undated sketchbooks, 4 drawings, and an oil self-portrait by Eric Hudson, an oil sketch of Hudson at his easel by Woodhull Adams, and an etching by Reynolds Beal. Printed material, 1918-1992, consists of clippings, exhibition announcements and catalogs for Eric Hudson, the book, Eric Hudson (1934), by William Edwin Rudge, and reproductions of art art work. Photographs, 1900-1992, include 5 of Eric Hudson, 4 of his friends and family, including Maud Briggs Knowlton and Alice Swett, Jacqueline and Julie Hudson and their friends the Toullecs, and 37 of art work by Eric and Jacqueline Hudson.

Biography Note:
Marine painter, New York, N.Y., and Monhegan Island, Me. Born 1864. Died 1932. Born in Boston, Mass., Eric Hudson studied at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts and at the Academie Julian. He lived on Gramercy Park in New York, maintained a summer studio on Monhegan Island, Maine, and was affiliated with the Ferargil Gallery. His daughter, Julie, was a librarian for many years at Princeton University. Another daughter, Jacqueline, a painter and lithographer, studied at the School of the National Academy of Design, Art Students League, and at Columbia University.
