Business, project and exhibition files, artists files, photographs, publications, scrapbooks, audio and video recordings, interview transcripts, and printed material documenting the activities of the New York Artists Equity Association.
Business files include organizational history files, constitutions, minutes of meetings of the National Artists Equity Association, and the New York Artists Equity Association, financial and legal documents, including art-related legislation, committee and national convention documents, membership files, applications, executive committee, boards of directors, and presidents' files, including those of Louise Nevelson, Harry Waterson, Roy Gussow, Jacob and Gwendolyn Knight Lawrence, Karl Zerbe, Ernst Fiene, Sidney Laufman, Carolyn deLisser, Burt Hasen, and Bert Diener, among others.
Project and exhibition files include material pertaining to the Artists Welfare Fund, Art Bank artwork donation records, masked ball benefit notebooks, and documentation including Improvisations Masquerade Ball books, 1950-1960, with lithographic reproductions, The Association's Broome Street gallery exhibition records and visitor registers, the Association's 55th Anniversary, including recollections by Helen Frankenthaler, Sidney Simon, and Lorrie Goulet.
Artists files include Frances Avery regarding the WPA, Henry Botkin, Emlen Etting, Ernest Fiene, Roy Gussow, Yasuo Kuniyoshi, Jacob Lawrence, Louise Nevelson, and Karl Zerbe.
Photographs are of members and events taken by Arnold Newman and Ilya Bolotowsky, among others. Included are photographs of "Art For Fashion's Sake," Saks Fifth Avenue display windows designed by Assoiation members, 1950. Among the photographs of members are Harold Ambellan, Edward Chavez, Lily Cushing, Julio De Diego, Jimmy Ernst, Ernest Fiene, David Fredenthal, Sue Fuller, Chaim Gross, William Hayter, Hilton Kramer, Leon Kroll, Yasuo Kuniyoshi, Howard Mandel, Edward Millman, George L. Four scrapbooks contain clippings, posters, photos, correspondence, printed material, and reproductions of artists' works.
Audio and video recordings include DVD, VHS, cassette, and reel- to-reel recordings of annual meetings, ART Thursday public programs, symposia, awards dinners, and Broome Street gallery exhibitions. Interview transcripts are with a variety of artists and include releases. Printed material includes exhibition catalogs, flyers, posters, invitations, clippings and magazines.
