Resume; art school report cards, 1885; several postcards and greeting cards; 456 photographs of MacNeil, his family, friends, models, studio and sculpture, and of other sculptor's work including his wife, Carol Brooks MacNeil; 9 sketchbooks with notes, and 8 sketches; a sketch by James A. Coughlin; clippings, exhibition catalogs and printed miscellany.

Biography Note:
Sculptor, art instructor; Queens, N.Y. Born in Everett, Mass., Feb. 27, 1866. Taught at Cornell University, Art Institute of Chicago, Pratt Institute and American Academy of Rome. Work includes statues, memorials, monuments, friezes. Established the American Indian as a legitimate artistic theme; d. 1947; husband of sculptor Carol Brooks MacNeil
Provenance:
Donated 1982 by Robert A. Sanborn, who received them from Donald Weeks, an English professor at Mills College, who in turn had received them from James A. Couglin, a colleague of MacNeil.
