An autobiographical sketch; 29 letters written by Adler to his family in 1888 during a trip to Europe, and letters received by Adler, including a group from the Institute of Architects convention in Boston, 1891; an oration given by Emil Hirsch at Adler's funeral; clippings; and Army documents.

Biography Note:
Architect; Chicago, Illinois. Period of greatest recognition during Adler & Sullivan partnership.
The Newberry Library gave the Archives of American Art electrostatic copies of the Dankmar Adler papers. The copies were microfilmed by the Archives of American Art and discarded. The Newberry Library retains the original documents, which were a gift to them from the architect's granddaughter, Mrs. Irving D. Saltzstein.
