Over 1120 fabric samples are featured from various regions of colonial India, including the modern South Asian nations of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. Caption titles for each sample include information on length, width, weight, price, and place of manufacture.
The first series was issued in 1866, as 20 sets containing 700 samples in 18 volumes.
This second series was apparently never completed, and few sets were distributed. The cataloger was unable to establish the full extent of the second series as it had been published, making it difficult to distinguish between missing volumes from this particular library collection and those that were never issued.
Vols. 1-3 include color photo-lithographic reproductions of the accompanying samples; the photo-lithographs are signed: W. Griggs, photo-litho, India Museum.
