Sources
Place:
France
Date:
1700
1707
Notes:
Hand-drawn illustrations, many painted with watercolors
Leaves written on both sides
The first eight pages are slightly wider than the volume and are folded along the fore-edge. The first two pages have a damaged fore-edge that was clumsily repaired, affecting the text on page one
The first ten plates have later foliation added in pencil; the contemporary plate numbering in ink (as referenced in the text) begins with the eleventh plate, which is numbered as "planche premiere."
The numbers 34 and 35 are each repeated once in the contemporary handwritten pagination, without duplication of text
Title devised by cataloger, based partly on the form of titles used in the later published works
Two small ink sketches of cannons have been tipped in with sealing wax on plate 9 (that is, on the eighteenth plate in the volume)
