Summary:
The Anacostia Museum and Center for African American History and Culture is renamed the Anacostia Community Museum, to reflect its focus on work with African American communities, in contrast to the mission of the new National Museum for African American History and Culture. The two museums work in a complementary fashion. The Anacostia Community Museum was created as the Anacostia Neighborhood Museum in 1967 and has always focused on the Anacostia section of Washington, D.C., and other local community interests.
