Summary:
A pair of cast iron vases with bas-relief scenes on the front and back. The two vases are nearly identical. On one side of each vase is the allegorical figure of Day depicted as a goddess in flight with wings outstretched. Falling from her hands are garlands of roses. In her arms she holds a cherub aloft. The cherub holds high a lighted torch. On the opposite side of each vase is the allegorical figure of the goddess of Night with wings stretched out behind her. She holds twin cherubs in her arms. They sleep with their eyes closed and wings at rest, their heads resting on the goddess' shoulders. At the feet of the goddess is a songbird in flight. Decorative relief featuring a repeating band of fleur-de-lis ornaments the neck of each vase and wreaths of bas-relief lilies surround the top. Each vase has two handles shaped as sprays of lilies. The reliefs are light-colored in contrast with the dark background of the vases themselves. The vases rest on separate concrete bases.
