Summary:
A Civil War soldier stands holding his rifle with both hands at his proper right side, the butt of which rests on the ground. He turns his head to the proper left. He wears a brimmed hat, a knee-length overcoat and cape. A tree stump is at the back of his proper right leg. The sculpture is mounted upon a tapered shaft with a serrated cornice and rough-hewn sides. The shaft is set upon a graduated base with three bottom steps. The bottom of the base and the steps are rough-hewn. Enclosed in the memorial's cornerstone is a rooster of soldiers and public officials, Confederate and U.S. money, and an account of fund-raising efforts.
