A doughboy stands in uniform with his proper right foot forward and his proper right arm bent with the hand raised almost to the shoulder, clasping the strap of a rifle which hangs at his proper right side. His proper left arm is bent to the waist resting at the top of a saber hanging from his artillery belt. He is dressed in a brimmed hat, leggings, and a pocketed, open-neck shirt with proper right sleeve rolled up. The sculpture is mounted atop the center base of a large exedra. There are three steps flanking each side of the central base, leading up to the sculpture. A wreath in relief is found at the front top center of the base balanced on either side by a flame in relief. This is flanked by an eagle's head protruding from the front corner of each side. There is a recessed areas to each side of the central base containing a self bench. Two plaques are above each bench.
