Summary:
The City Seal flanked by larger than life figures of a Dutch settler and an Indian. The Dutch settler appears on the proper left, his proper left hand raised to eye level in a gesture of greeting. He wears a brimmed hat and "Patroon" attire. His proper right hand rests on the seal. A Mahican Indian is on the right. He wears a feathered headdress. His proper left hand rests on the seal, and in his proper right hand, he holds a bow and arrow. The seal between the figures has two main parts in bas-relief. The upper half shows a beaver gnawing on a birch tree trunk, and the lower half depicts two shafts of wheat. There is a small sailing ship, the Half-Moon, atop the point of the seal. At the men's feet, behind the seal, is a Dutch az, a pot and a beaver skin.
