The soldier holds his rifle in front of him with both hands around the barrel and the butt on the ground. The zinc base is cast to resemble rough-cut stone with decorative moldings, floral elements, cherubs, inscription plaques, and relief panels depicting military insignia. On the front, the insignia depicts a pair of crossed anchors. On the right side, the insignia depicts three rifles stacked in a tripod arrangement. On the left side, the insignia depicts a pair of crossed sabers in scabbards. And, on the rear, the insignia depicts a pair of crossed cannons.
