Summary:
A mustached portrait of Major General John Gray Foster dressed in full Union uniform that includes high boots, thigh-length coat, and brimmed hat. He stands holding a pair of binoculars in his proper right hand, while grasping the hilt of a sword with his proper left hand. The tip of the sword rests by his proper left foot. The figure is placed atop a base that is decorated at the four corners of its uppermost section with stylized leaves.
