Summary:
A Confederate soldier in field uniform stands at parade rest, holding the barrel of his rifle at chest height with both hands, the butt of which rests by his feet. He wears a wide-brimmed field hat and a pouch is slung over his shoulder and hangs at his proper right waist. Behind the soldier is knee-high stump. The soldier is mounted upon a base with a column-like upper section with an inscription. The lower section of the base is multitiered with inscriptions and reliefs, with a graduated, three-stepped bottom section. Four marble cannon balls used to be at the corners of the base.
