(On base, right:) "THE CONSTITUTION IS A/SACRED INSTRUMENT; AND/A SACRED TRUST IS GIVEN/TO US TO SEE TO IT THAT/ITS PRESERVATION IN ALL/ITS VIRTUE AND ITS VIGOR/IS PASSED ON TO THE/GENERATIONS YET TO COME."/SPOKEN ON THIS SPOT MAY 13, 1901 (On base, front:) MCKINLEY (On base, rear:) ERECTED BY THE PEOPLE OF SANTA CLARA COUNTY A. Summary:
Full-length standing figure of William McKinley wearing a suit, an open overcoat, and holding a top hat in his proper left hand. A shield leans against his proper left foot. The figure stands on a pedestal which stands on a tiered base. Objects near the figure and on the tiered base include a torch supported by the wing of an eagle, a Bible, a Cross, tablets of the Ten Commandments, scythe, cornucopia and a hammer. A Boathowitzer dated 1870 stands on its own tier, and has the inscription, "F.M.R.-USNY Washington 427 lbs. 26 pre N 155.
