Summary:
Depicting an imaginary scene in the camp of a volunteer corps, probably the State Fencibles of NYC. In the foreground a seated recruit illustrates several military errors while sewing a flag while a sergeant corrects him. In the background another sergeant is drilling a squad while an officer watches. The men wear gray tail coats, white trousers and black bearskins with red and black feathers. The letters "SF" are on their belt plates.
