Title created by ACMA staff based on transcription from physical asset.
As part of the ACM Community Documentation Initiative, the Anacostia Community Museum continued its commitment to the exploration and examination of American religious history, experience, and expressions through the 'Houses of Worship Project (HOW).' The project involved canvassing and mapping every house of worship in Far Southeast's wards 7 and 8, and researching various aspects of local religious history and community involvement. The HOW project allowed the museum to present to community residents, researchers, and congregations with accurate information on the role and impact of religious institutions of all faiths in community life. Data collected provided in-depth understanding of the challenges, issues, and successes faced by communities of faith in the present-day social, political, and economic climate. HOW contributed to a comprehensive mapping of community resources and indicators and comprises a major component of the museum's overall documentation of community history and development.
