Summary:
Television broadcast created by Hal Linker, with his wife, Halla, and son, David. Footage was filmed in Port Moresby and Mount Hagen in Papua, New Guinea. The broadcast begins in Port Moresby with an airplane ride into the interior of New Guinea, to Mount Hagen. Scenes in Mount Hagen include office buildings such as the Treasury Department, and a thatched hut village. The focus of the broadcast is the Sing-sing, a bi-annual warrior celebration and mock war ceremony, created to peacefully share traditions among the different tribes of the region. Warriors at the Sing-sing display various war costumes, including face paint, nose piercings, and elaborate headdresses decorated with feathers, wings, and whole birds. Traditional costumes of certain tribes are shown, including the mud-covered bodies of the Asaro Mudmen; billum skirts made from bark; hats woven of human hair; and raffia and shell costumes of the archers of the lowlands. Activities shown at the Sing-sing include dancing, the challenging of tribal warfare, and a charge of warriors.
