Summary:
Footage shot in 1971 among the Nambas of Amok village, northwest central Malekula. This is one of several regions on Malekula known as "Big Nambas", a reference to the number of Nambas in these areas and to the male genital cover--"Big Nambas" meaning that more things are wrapped around the genitals than is found among other Nambas. Footage depicts daily life in the compound of Virambat, the chief of Amok; includes shots of casual interaction around hamlet complex; man tying cloth infant carrier around child; mothers with infants, children at play, males in traditional penis wrappers and women with distinctive long wigs.
