Under a tree, a youth is seated by a fair girl, teaching her to play the flageolet; they are attired in the gay costume of the time of Louis XIV. The lady's maid, and a gardener are behind them, looking on with interest and curiosity, and in front, a little girl, seated on the brink of a rivulet, amused with the falling of the water from a sculptured fountain. An opening through the trees shows a noon-day sky, and a villa and hills in the distance. [P. 9.]
