A STUDY FROM LIFE. [P. 2] As a painter of heads he takes a high rank among the greatest of living artists. His portraits are remarkable for their expression of life and character, as well as for their breadth of handling and elaborate finish. The three heads which are prominent in the collection of his pictures now on exhibition in this city, are splendid examples of his genius, and will compare favorably with some of the most famous portraits by the great painters of past ages. [P. 3; see entries 03150002 and 03150004 for other works noted in this commentary.]
