"Description of the picture. At the rising of the curtain the boat is discovered on fire in the distance, and is seen to rise and fall with each succeeding wave - parts are occasionally caving in, commencing near the centre and extending each way until the boat is left a mere wreck. Those that were on board are represented clinging to ropes, boxes, &c. which were thrown over for that purpose - the ropes being attached to the boat. During the progress of the flames the small boat is seen moving in the distance, and is afterwards discovered nearer, rowing in the direction of the cutter, picking up those within reach. " The cutter is also seen in the distance running to leeward - the mainmast of the boat is seen to fill, and the whole concludes with a very near view of the cutter beating to the windward." [P. 8.]
