A bad subject, well painted, by an able Artist. This picture was brought from Spoleto, and though it is not certainly known to be by Barocci, and is indeed superior to most of his works, yet as it has been pronounced by good judges to be of the Roman School, it is placed here because the tone of colouring resembles that of Barocci more than of any other Roman master in the collection. (On canvass--length 5 feet 1 inch, breadth 3 feet 9 inches.) [P. 18.]
