This is a genuine handstamped Paid 5 applied at Columbia, South Carolina, and addressed to the 1st Regiment of South Carolina Volunteers (exact location unknown). The Atlanta, Georgia, circular date stamp is a counterfeit, which was applied many years later to deceive collectors.
