This object, field # 3455, was collected in 1883 by James D. Middleton, an assistant working for the Smithsonian Bureau of American Ethnology (BAE), Division of Mound Exploration. He was working in Wisconsin for the BAE in 1883 so this object was presumably collected there. It was part of a large transfer of artifacts from the BAE to the U.S. National Museum in 1883.
