LENT TO THE DES MOINES ART CENTER, MAY, 1994 FOR THE EXHIBITION "THE AMERICAN INDIAN PARFLECHE: A TRADITION OF ABSTRACT PAINTING". ACCORDING TO THE EXHIBIT LABEL, THE PIECE IS MADE OF BUFFALO RAWHIDE, PIGMENT, AND NATIVE LEATHER, AND "ACCESSION RECORDS INDICATE THAT THIS CASE WAS PROBABLY COLLECTED BY GEORGE CATLIN AND IS OF COMANCHE ORIGIN; CATLIN VISITED THE TRIBE IN 1834; CASE ACCESSIONED BY THE MUSEUM IN 1884." NOTE RE PHOTOS: 2002-12347 IS CS/CT OF BACK OF PARFLECHE. Also Neg. # 2001-1968 is black and white of back of bag, and 2001-1966 is CT of back of bag. Other neg. #s are images of front of bag.
