From card: "Black painted or dyed skin; pattern is 6 piece; (1) base with lower edges of sides puckered to (2) inserted U-shaped tongue; (3 and 4) long, narrow strips between #1 and (5 and 6) ankle flaps. Decoration: - elaborately quilled floral patterns on U-insert and ankle flaps. Quill colors - orange, blue and natural. Purple silk edging around ankle flaps. Dr. Wm. Fenton, BAE, stated that this type moccasin probably Huron or Mohawk from vicinity Catholic Missions, late 18th or early 19th century. The floral designs may reflect French influence - Feb. 17, 1948."
Decoration includes floral quillwork or moose hair work.
