From card: "Owned by Two Moons - signed with double crescent. Consists of bear claws and sleigh bells. Described in American Indian Tradition, vol. 8, no. 1, 1961, p. 8. Original label reads: 'Two Moons (with graphical representation of double crescent here). (Cheyenne chief) his signature traced. Bear claw necklace secured sept. 12th 1909 after trying for 15 years. J. H. Sharp, Crow Agency, Mont.'"
There are two original tags with this artifact. As noted on the catalogue card, one tag is from Joseph Henry Sharp. Front of the tag, as writen by Sharp says: "Two Moons [name glyph of linked/double crescent moons] -- His signature traced. Bear claw necklace - secured Sept 12th 1909 after trying for 15 years. Crow Agency, Mont. J.H. Sharp." Back of Sharp tag has annotation by Dr. Sally McLendon: "Original tag of Joseph Henry Sharpe [sic], the painter, who sold a collection to Grace Nicholson, the dealer, who sold to V.J. Evans, 1919 - S. McLendon June 1981". Second original tag is tag of artifact dealer Grace Nicholson, per Dr. Sally McLendon. Front of tag, as written by Nicholson says: "165 Cheyenne Chief Two Moons Necklace with signature". Back of Nicholson tag has annotation by Dr. Sally McLendon: "Original tag of Grace Nicholson, was bought [from] J.H. Sharpe [sic] collection - S. McLendon June 1981".
