BARK CLOTH PAINTED FREEHAND IN FOUR BLACK PANELS WHICH ARE OUTLINED WITH WIDE REDDISH-BROWN LINES, AND BORDERED ON TWO SIDES WITH A WIDE REDDISH-BROWN PANEL. THE REVERSE SHOWS A CROSS-HATCH WATERMARK. HAS ORIGINAL PEALE TAG; ALSO OLD SHIPPING LABEL READS, "B[ARRE]L. NO 3 TAPA FROM SAMOA NOV 1839". EXAMINED BY KENNETH P. EMORY, BISHOP MUSEUM, JUNE 1941.
