L-974 (Bayou Menard Chert)
Bayou Menard Chert, also known as Red Bird, is a black chert. When weathered it has a white limestone matrix. It may have inclusions of white fossils, mostly crinoidal fragments. It has a very smooth, glossy texture. Deposits include nodules up to 18" embedded in huge limestone blocks, 3'X10'.
