L-124 (Elco Chert)
Elco Chert, also known as Dover, is a light gray or white chert. It can be locally discolored by iron stains or have intermittent wavy black stripes. It becomes light brown when weathered. It has a gritty texture and may have fossiliferous inclusions. Gravel deposits of pebbles up to 6", and slabs up to 5". SEE ALSO: DOVER

Location remarks: In the SW1/4 NE1/4 NE1/4 sec. 7, T.14S., R 1 W., about 1.25 miles northeast of Elco (Illinois) is a deposit of chert gravel, known locally as "Elco" gravel. It consists of angular chert gravel including slabs up to 5 feet long
