Description:
Found on the wreck of the propeller steamer <I>Indiana</I>, a bell as small as this one would have been too small to serve as a fog signal for any distance. It probably would have been used to signal crew watch changes, as a dinner bell, or possibly to signal someone on a nearby shore.
