The journal documents C. O. Handley's field work in Virginia, May 5 - 27, 1959. Entries are dated and location / route. Entries describe travel details, specimens collected (scientific name, quantities, totals, time of day), daily work, vegetation observed, terrain (sometimes elevation), travel companions, lists of birds seen, weather. There may be two different recorders of events. Hand writing varies in entries. Locations include Lancaster county, Smyth county, Grayson county, Virginia.
