Abstract:
The field book documents the field work of Charles O. Handley, Jr. in Canada (Prince Patrick Island and Northwest Territories), April 18 - July 31, 1949. Includes journals for Mould Bay (April 18 - June 1, 1949), Mould Bay (June 2 - July 31, 1949). Entries are dated and headed with locality. Details include travel details (routes, destinations, mode of travel, accommodations, campsites), observations of flora and fauna (including droppings, tracks, behavior), specimen collecting (including lemmings), collecting method, specimen preparation, detailed descriptions of stations, weather and temperature, scientific work facilities, living conditions, interactions with colleagues, terrain (often coastlines) and geology, and daily activities including meals. In the second journal section are descriptions for numbered traps. Locations include Cherie Bay. There are hand drawn maps of Mould Bay station. There are notations in the margin of the first journal, relating to the subject covered in the entries (i.e. helping with airlift, old "redtail" 575760, or description of Mould Bay Station).
