Abstract:
The journal documents the field work of Edward A. Goldman in Panama, December 22, 1910 - June 30, 1911. Includes a partial, "not proofed" transcription by S. L. Olson, December 1990. Entries are dated and describe travel details (destinations, voyage aboard SS Colon, mode of transportation, campsites) with H. Pittier (Bureau of Plant Industry), S. E. Meek (Field Museum of Natural History), S. F. Hildebrand (Bureau of Fisheries) to engage in a biological survey of Panama for the Smithsonian. Subject matter covers terrain (altitude / elevation) and vegetation seen enroute, daily work, specimen collecting, staff including members of local tribes, photographs taken, wildlife observed (birds), and weather. Part of the notebook is blank. Locations include the vicinity of Gatun, Cerro Azul, and Calobre.
