Abstract:
The journal documents Vernon Orlando Bailey's collecting of mammal and bird specimens in British Columbia, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, July - October 1909. Entries are dated and pages are sometimes headed with location. Details include travel details (mode of travel, destinations, accommodations, campsites), terrain, vegetation (including crops and life zone), weather, daily activities and times day, observed flora and fauna, communities visited, specimens collected, interactions with local officials, and work with Streeter. Includes lists of fauna (type and habitat), flora (headed by location and zone, listing type and habitat), and types of trees (big timber). Work was completed for the US Department of Agriculture. At the end of notebook is a list of reports mailed per location.
