Abstract:
The journal documents Vernon Orlando Bailey's collecting mammal and bird specimens in Texas, May 2 - August 30, 1901. Diary indicates he completed the work for the Biological Survey. Entries are dated. Details include routes, distances, campsites, daily activities with time of day, terrain (including elevation, soil composition), vegetation (type and abundance), ranches visited, observed wildlife, specimens collected, communities visited, and challenges in travel. Includes a list of plants with notes on appearance and abundance. Locations include Sierra Blanca, Tornillo creek, Chisos mountains (includes a sketch of camp location), Fort Davis, and Carlsbad.
