Abstract:
Alexander Wetmore travels to Guatemala in 1936 to conduct ornithological investigations and collect specimens for the US National Museum. Correspondence dates 1936-1937. Correspondents include John Enos Graf, William Wilson Popenoe, and Thomas Barbour. Letters discuss the assistance from the United Fruit Company in Wetmore's travels, visits with colleagues, ongoing Smithsonian business, planning of National Geographic Society-Smithsonian Institution Expedition to Collect Living Wild Animals and Birds [National Geographic Society-Smithsonian Institution Expedition to the Dutch East Indies] (1937), and preparations for trip. Letter dated September 26,1936 indicates Wetmore's wife became ill, and trip was postponed.
