A.S. Hitchcock compiled photographs relating to collecting trips to Central and South America, 1923-1924. Photographs are numbered and captions include details of location and sometimes date. Locations documented include: Ecuador (Cuenca, Loja, Biblián, Portovelo, Quito (street scenes), Huiga, Mt. Chimborazo); Colombia; Peru (Oroya, Lima (street scenes), Perené Plantation, Atocsaico ranch, Cuczo (incan ruins), Chuquibambilla Experiment Stations, Arequipa, Ollantaitambo, La Raya; Bolivia (Mt. Illimani, Chulimani, near La Paz, Atocha, near Tupiza River); Chile; Panama (Barro Colorado). Subject matter includes (Ecuador) village and rural scenes; structures; vegetation including examples of cacti; agricultural workers and fields; ports and vessels; landscapes including paramo; local people and colleagues; (Peru) Ranches, relating structures and procedures relating to sheep and cattle industries, terraced hillsides; (Bolivia) Ranches, relating structures and procedures relating to sheep and cattle industries, terraced hillsides.
