Description:
Poster advertising the Cranbrook Academy of Art's annual program in New York City in the shape of a trapezoid. Features a black and white photographic reproduction of the New York skyline and an aerial view of city blocks at the bottom. An outline of a tall building with a triangular, pointed top rises from the bottom on the left. The building and the large rectangular area adjacent to it on the right gradually change color from yellow (bottom) to pink (top). On the right section, a column consisting of business cards from NYC-based designers appears, alongside three separate quotes about design to the left of each business card. The designers featured are Michael Donovan of Donovan and Green Designers, Dan Friedman of Pentagram, Valerie Pettis, Sam Antupit of Harry N. Abrams, Bruce Blackburn of Danne & Blackburn Inc., Michael Cousins of Morison S. Cousins & Associates Inc., Tibor Kalman of M&Co., Jack Lenor Larsen, James Wines of SITE, and Paul Haigh. In the center of the composition a black device or instrument of some kind appears, possibly a reproduction of the "lunar landing oven" mentioned in a nearby quote by Michael A. Cousins. Printed in pink, above the device, center left of the design: ambiance. Printed in black ink, in scrambled letters, along the top: CRANbRook iN NEW York; above a thin black line, upper left: 81; upper right: 82. Small, spaced out letters printed in black ink, diagonally, from center left to upper right, following the path of a thin diagonal black line below: FFAASSHHIIOONN.
