Round reeds make up much of the body of this small basket, while thicker wood splints create a U-shaped design at the base of the splint-covered handle. Artist Ira Blount’s initials and the number “86” indicating the year are written in pen on the bottom.
After moving to Washington, DC following World War II, Ira Blount mastered dozens of artisanal crafts. His love for crafting, learning, and community engagement would endure over the course of his long life and career.
