Summary:
Interview of Sylvia Plimack Mangold, conducted by William Weiss for the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution, in Washingtonville, NY, on July 7, 1994.
Mangold speaks of her family and childhood in New York City; her early exposure to art in Queens; attending Music & Art High School, Cooper Union, and Yale University; going to contemporary art shows; her early work and decision to paint exterior and interior spaces and architecture; her use of rulers in her work; and her influences. Mangold also recalls John McLaughlin, Eva Hesse, Fairfield Porter, Alex Katz, Catherine Murphy, and others.
