Loring working on sculptures in her studio-home. UPI photo.

Identification on accompanying label (typewritten): Honored both for her heroic statues and her heroic efforts to build a Canadian artist tradition, 72-year-old Frances Loring takes time out from her sculpture for an informal portrait. The great lady of Canadian sculpture, Miss Loring was born in Wardner, Idaho, in 1887, but moved to Canada in 1912 and has made her home in Toronto ever since. Now at the peak of her powers, the sculptress is too busy with her work to think of taking things easy.
