Summary:
Black and white photograph of the Titanic Memorial created by Vanderbilt Whitney. <br>Identification on attachment (typewritten): Wash. D.C.; The Titanic Memorial as it was inadvertently draped by the American flag as it was being lowered to half-mast after the dedication of the statue. The flag was caught by the wind and blown against the artistic work, a creation of Mrs. Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney and financed by popular subscription. President Hoover participated in the dedication to those who lost their lives in the steamship disaster on April 15, 1912. <br>Any citation of this item must include the following title: Whitney Museum of American Art, Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney papers.
