Contains correspondence, memoranda, phone messages, tickets (airline and train), itineraries, agendas, contracts and agreements, receipts, email, purchase orders, car rental agreements, visa applications, stage plot diagrams, tax forms, music lists, newspaper clippings, photographs, and brochures relating to performances by Dizzy Gillespie from 1987 to 1993. The materials are arranged alphabetically and within each file, chronologically. Many of the contracts can be found throughout the business files. The special projects file consists of a variety of opportunities presented to Gillespie. The opportunities included honorary doctorates, movie deals, television appearances, musical/educational consultations, guest performances, speaking engagements, and fund raising activities.
Collection Restrictions:
The collection is open for research. Researchers must handle unprotected photographs with gloves. Researchers must use reference copies of audio-visual materials. When no reference copy exists, the Archives Center staff will produce reference copies on an "as needed" basis, as resources allow.
