Papers document consulting engineer Morris Jacks and his work with the Empire State Building, Yankee Stadium, and the Third Avenue Transit Corporation. The collection consists of correspondence, appraisals, reports, blueprints, legal documents, and other notes about Jacks's work related to the valuation of structures.
Arrangement:
The Collection is arranged into 4 series. Series 1: Personal Materials, undated Series 2: Empire State Building, 1929-1975 Series 3: Third Avenue Transit Corporation, 1949-1955 Series 4: Yankee Stadium, 1945-1976
Biographical / Historical:
Morris Jacks was a practicing and consulting engineer who graduated from Washington University (St. Louis) in 1920. He supervised construction projects in Missouri and New York City and was president and chief engoneer of Sola Engineering Corporation which worked on excavations and foundations. Jacks also conducted appraisals and the valuation of structural improvements (buildings, fixtures, machinery, piping, and wiring) working for the City of New York , Board of Taxes and Assessments He also acted as an expert witness, providing testimony in state and federal court for legal cases involving construction costs and depreciations of buildings and equipment.
