Wurstelprater balloon ascendance poster and related ticket, 1850.
Scope and Contents:
This collection consists of a 9 x 11.5 inch poster announcing the balloon ascendance at the Wurstelprater amusement park in Vienna by Carl Kirsch on Monday, September 2, 1850, and a 4 x 2.5 inch ticket redeemable for another show in case of unfavorable weather.

Biographical / Historical:
The Weiner Prater is a large public park in Vienna, Austria, founded in 1766 with the donation of Austrian Emperor Josef II's royal hunting grounds. Over the years the Prater evolved to include the Wurstelprater Amusement Park. During the 1850s, the park was the site of balloon ascendance.
